In July 2010, the United States Congress enacted legislation requiring companies to report annually to the SEC (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission) on the use of “conflict minerals” in product manufacturing. We are committed to respecting human rights and not contributing to conflict. Although Umicore is not an SEC-reporting company, we follow the spirit of this legislation to ensure that all Umicore gold is certified as “Conflict-Free”.

Currently, Umicore does not identify any use of conflict minerals in its supply chain and does not source gold from the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo). Umicore participates in a group-wide initiative to ensure sustainable raw material sourcing throughout the entire supply chain. We do not accept any direct or indirect support to non-state armed groups through mining, transport, trading, handling, or export of minerals.

Since March 2022, Umicore has been certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) under the strict Chain of Custody (CoC) standard, confirming compliance with a conflict-free supply chain for gold (and other platinum group metals).
